So, I’ve recently been having problems with Tweetdeck or I suppose more accurately, I’ve been having problems with Adobe AIR (the framework that Tweetdeck runs on). Basically, the problem was my computer thought that Adobe AIR was installed, when in reality it was not.
What caused this, I’m not exactly sure. But I visited all the usual suspects. Checked the Library, Preferences, Caches, etc. and did my best to wipe the computer of any previous “misinformation”.
Now before I continue, I should state that part of the problem was definitely brought on by the import of this account from a backup of my old computer. It seems that the backup worked too well; it had all my preferences and caches, but I didn’t have all of the corresponding applications installed. But I digress.
So, I figured that since my computer didn’t actually have Adobe AIR installed, I would just go download it, install, pat myself on the back, and enjoy using Tweetdeck once again.
Not so.
After doing all that, I ran the installer, and it told me that it was already installed. WTH?!
Ok, so I tried to install Tweetdeck.
Didn’t work.
So, I did some looking around on the great big internet, and found all this great info about “going into your Utilities folder, where Adobe AIR (when installed) leaves an uninstaller for said app.”
“Great” I thought. I headed on over to the folder.
Nothing.
I couldn’t figure it out. I was so dang frustrated. How can you uninstall something when it doesn’t exist on the machine in the first place and has not left its usual paper trail?
In short- I had to sleep on it.
It wasn’t until today that I figured it out.
I went on to my old computer (although the screen is busted, you can still access it via File Sharing), and found the uninstaller in the Utilities folder. Success!
I grabbed on to the Application, and ran! I honestly would describe the brief moment with the uninstaller as if I was leading someone by the hand as fast as I could to what looked like deliverance. But, I was thwarted once again. This time, it was simply because I did not have the sufficient privileges to copy an Application from one machine to the other. Argh! I was so close.
I know that you are reading this (or not) in fast succession, but just keep in mind that this has taken me quite a while to figure out:
What I had to do, was use an external USB drive I had lying around, copy the application to the drive, and then I could copy it from the drive to my current computer.
Finally, it worked!
I hope that you can recognize that this was an unorthodox, and in one sense, very lucky way to get Tweetdeck back.
Had I already sold my old Mac for parts, I’d be up a proverbial creek…
Oh yeah, I have a picture for you to admire. Just one of the many reasons why Macs are better:
