All That You Can’t Leave Behind

So, today was the election. As we all know at this point, Barack Obama is our new President Elect. Congratulations President Obama. No, I did not vote for you personally, but you are now my president, and I will respect you and follow your lead without complaint for the next 4 years.

As I was driving home from work today, the thought popped into my mind that if McCain had won, I can’t really imagine a big group of supporters doing much more than a quick “hoorah!” to celebrate, whereas Obama supporters are probably having a mad party right now.

It seems that of the people I know that voted for McCain, there was definitely not a lot of passion in their commitment to him. Almost like, they were voting for him, just cuz they didn’t want to vote for the other guy. Admittedly, I would fall into that category; which is why, if McCain had won, I still wouldn’t be celebrating.

Although there has been a lot of talk about our upcoming president, and a whole lot of slander surrounding today, I honestly think that the change will be good. Sure, no president is perfect, but I have confidence that every man that has held that office has done the best that they feel they could to take care of this country; including our current president, President Bush.

As I listened to U2 on the way home from work, the song “Walk On” struck my attention, and for some reason I felt this comfort and peace about me, Regardless of the outcome that would happen a few hours later, these words somehow lent me peace:

All that you fashion
All that you make
All that you build
All that you break
All that you measure
All that you steal
All this you can leave behind
All that you reason
All that you sense
All that you speak
All you dress up
All that you scheme…

Listened to: Kite from the album “All That You Can’t Leave Behind” by U2
